Pussy Galore: Women, Sex, and the Subject/Object Relation
Elleree Fletcher was awarded Summa Cum Laude for her work on this thesis and the artworks associated.
Women are often found in between stages of subject and object. Women see themselves as subjects, but their visual sexuality can objectify and flatten them. In the paper and images provided, Fletcher establishes the differences between woman as subject versus woman as object. She explores the process of becoming a woman, and the way children misconstrue the meaning of growing up. By catching the woman in between stages of subject and object, she illuminates sexualilty’s ability to deteriorate the multiplicities of a woman.
